IPSC
IPSC, or the International Practical Shooting Confederation, is a truly international discipline practiced in over 52 countries worldwide.
Unlike disciplines where a single type of target is used at a designated distance, practical shooting is different. Each competition features a distinct course of fire, with a variety of targets arranged differently for each stage and match. Competitors are free to move within the boundaries of the stage and engage targets according to their own strategy.
These dynamic and fast-paced events involve shooting at both stationary and moving steel and paper targets, placed at various distances and angles. No two competitions are the same. A typical match includes movement, rapid reloading, shooting from dynamic positions, firing through shooting ports, and shooting from behind barricades.
This style of shooting places a strong emphasis on speed and accuracy, both critical factors in determining a shooter’s final score.
At Oakleigh Pistol Club, you have the opportunity to participate in both official graded IPSC matches and internal club matches tailored for OPC members seeking a less competitive, more casual atmosphere. These internal competitions are usually shorter and provide additional guidance and coaching support.
